Transition Year

All students attend Transition Year in St Joseph of Cluny. The purpose of the year is to help students make the transition from a highly structured and exam-orientated environment to one where they will take greater responsibility for their own learning and decision-making. The overall aims of the course are:

  • Education for maturity, with an emphasis on social awareness and increased social competence.
  • Education through experience of adult and working life as a basis for personal development and maturity.
  • Promotion of general, technical and academic skills with an emphasis on inter-disciplinary and self-directed learning

Transition Year students learn through activity-based learning, group work, project work and educational trips.

At the end of Transition year students, before going into Fifth year, can pick three subject they tried in Transition Year to continue studying for Leaving Certicate.
