Welcome to the St Joseph of Cluny website. We are delighted to have the opportunity to present our school to you and to explain what we believe makes our school unique. Cluny secondary school was founded in 1956 by the French missionary order of St Joseph of Cluny.

The Order has established a strong academic and holistic tradition in its schools that is based on the principle of caring for the individual. The founder Anne Marie Javouhey had a great belief in the capacity to create change “Courage and perseverance. With a strong will great things are done!” Faith principles are important to us in Cluny where we place a strong emphasis on the formation of a strong personal value system for our students and on the development of their ability, their wellbeing and their personal spirituality. In fact the International Commission on Education for the 21st Century reported to UNESCO that education should ‘contribute to every person’s complete development, mind, body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation and spirituality.’

Our school ethos aims to strike a balance between achieving academic excellence and caring for the real needs of the individual student. We strive for above all so that our students realise a sense of their own value. Our talented and professional teaching staff are dedicated to the promotion of high standards in our students. Ours is a small to medium size school and we feel this is a decided advantage with regard to the quality of the relationships that we can offer your son or daughter.

We also offer a modern curriculum with a strong focus on high standards in the delivery of our teaching and in the quality of the students’ learning. As you study the Cluny website you will find that we offer a full programme of subjects as well as an extensive array of co-curricular activities. We offer a full range of the arts, languages, science and business subjects as well as placing a high value on the quality of the educational information going home to parents. This can be seen for example in our school reports which focus on learning advice and information for students.

We like to create a quiet confidence in our Cluny students through the programmes we offer so that they can be happy, manage themselves well and have the skills to engage comfortably in most situations in life. We like to work in partnership with parents also to provide opportunities for personal growth in Cluny which are rooted “in the values of tolerance and generosity towards others” and where students can become “an advocate for the common good” Cluny Mission Statement

To parents, students and all who visit our website I hope you find the information you require here and would encourage you, your son or daughter to visit our school where you will all be made welcome. Please call us otherwise should you require further information.

We look forward to meeting you.
