Learning Support

St Joseph of Cluny is an all-girls secondary school which enrols students from a wide catchment area. The school has a holistic approach to education, nurturing individual strengths in a positive and inclusive learning environment and we enrol students of all abilities. We strive to enable each student advance academically, while building and developing valuable life skills to prepare them for third level education and adult life. Our school has a strong Pastoral Care system in place to support the well-being of our pupils and to identify those who require additional support, both within and outside the classroom. We are a part of the FUSE DCU Anti-Bullying Programme and Online Safety Programme.

Once a learning difficulty has been identified either at student entry (Educational Assessment/other) or over time, the Learning Support team works in close collaboration with individual subject teachers and the Guidance Counsellor, to address the particular learning requirements of the student, in a sensitive and affirmative manner.

An Individual Educational Plan (IEP/ILP) is compiled to support the student with a focus on addressing any identified difficulties within the context of subject studies. Regular contact and input from both student and guardian/s is encouraged to ensure all aspects of learning are being addressed.
In accordance with best practice and DES policies, the Learning Support Department strives to ensure that students with learning difficulties are provided with as much support as resources allow and are monitored and reviewed each term to establish their changing needs. Students are allocated support in small groups or individual classes depending on timetabling/student needs.

This is a brief overview of the role of the Learning Support Department in Cluny. We trust it addresses some of the questions you may have on the subject. We very much welcome the opportunity to discuss in further detail any questions you may have in this regard by contacting our school office at 01-2855027.
