Welcome back to another edition of Good News Friday, covering stories from the past week here at Cluny.

Today, we were delighted to welcome so many people to our school for our coffee morning in aid of Blackrock Hospice in association with Bewley's Big Coffee morning. Students, staff, parents, guardians, past pupils and more were welcomed to this event in which we raised money for an important cause. Thank you to all who baked and donated to this event. We were delighted to welcome you all to Cluny.

Congratulations to our TY students who received their Junior Certificate results earlier this week! We are so proud of each of you.

We were delighted to take part in the “lets fix fashion” programme this week as part of Climate Action week. Students watched a series of important short films on the topic of fast fashion and its environmental impact. On Monday, we had a whole school assembly to highlight the week’s events and about the lets fix fashion programme. Themed days held during the week included no trash Tuesday and walk to school on Wednesday. Students also took part in a whole school Kahoot quiz.

Yesterday we had our whole school photography day. Year groups and sports groups were all welcomed to the sports hall for their photos. Many thanks to the photographers for working with us to capture these moments!

During our school's exciting Math Murder Mystery, students showed exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills. The winning team, made up of sharp detectives, impressively pieced together clues, identified the 'culprit,' and solved the mystery, showcasing their dedication and critical thinking. This victory demonstrated the power of real-life problem-solving with math. The winners were: Clodagh Glansford, Amelie Hetherington, Niamh Mc Gorrian, Sophia Steele, Ciara Fitzpatrick and Sophie Lynch.

Two very good wins in Basketball for Cluny Under 16’s vs Loreto Dalkey, 35-37! A close game! Cluny U/19’s had a very good win also, 45-38 win over Dalkey. Go Cluny go!

Third year students took part in a clean up in Cluny Park on Tuesday and cleaned up lots of litter including a bike!

Well done to Rosa, Eimear, Sophie, Ciara, Lilith and Cora on a fantastic debut in the first round of the UCD Junior Leinster Schools debate on Wednesday night. The teams debated on whether a carbon tax on airlines should be imposed and if standardised testing in schools should be banned. Well done!!

A massive thank you to acclaimed author Jane Mitchell who visited us on Tuesday. Jane spoke to TYs and Third Years about her writing process and how she immersed herself into research for her young adult books which explore the realities of being a refugee. As part of this, she spoke to students about her time volunteering in direct provision centres where she spoke to refugees as well as her time in France within refugee camps. This was an eye opening and impactful talk.

Students in 4L visited the DSPCA earlier this week.

We held our first book club meeting for first, second- and third-year students this week in the library at lunchtime on Thursday. Students spoke about their recent reads and some of their favourite books. Well done to all.

TY students auditioned for the TY musical today! Well done to all.

Best of luck to all of our TY students who are completing their first week of work experience next week. We are looking forward to hearing about your placements!

That is it for this week! And remember, at Cluny, we stride, we believe, we become!
