Friday 01 December 2023

This week’s edition includes stories from the last two weeks here at Cluny. We hope you enjoy reading it.

Last Thursday, Ms. Marren, our ABC 'A Better Community' coordinator, and our ABC representatives raised the Cineáltas/Antibullying flag which we received from the Department of Education. The Cineáltas flag acknowledges the good work that St. Joseph of Cluny is doing to prevent and address bullying and to promote kindness, respect, inclusion, diversity and wellbeing.

Last week, we celebrated College Awareness Week. Students took part in several career talks throughout the week. A massive thank you to Fiona D'Arcy, Deputy Principal, Sallynoggin College of Further Education, who spoke to our third year students on Monday in the library about the courses available from Sallynoggin College of Further Education.

We were delighted to be joined by Sinead Donovan, President of Chartered Accountants Association of Ireland and Partner (first female) of Grant Thornton. Sinead spoke to our TYs and fifth years about her career. A fantastic talk!

Dr. Jill O’Mahony, Director of Admissions in UCD, along with Ms. McFarland gave a talk to our senior students and their parents and guardians about the CAO and university life.

Congratulations to our school choir who took part in the Kilcoole Music Festival and scored fantastic results! Congratulations to Gwen who came first in the Under-19 solo vocal category. Well done to the highly commended Kate, Lucy, Anna Maria and Ellie. Our choir came in a fantastic third place.

Students in fifth year enjoyed a webinar about women in STEM.

TY Culinary Art students enjoyed a Christmas cake demonstration by the fabulous Lizzy. Very creative Christmas trees, robins, penguins and snowmen were produced. Lizzy also gave us lots of tips on how to ice the cake.

Students in TY took part in a makeup workshop where they learned about special effects make up and more!

Students in first year took part in their retreat today. We hope they enjoy the day out.

TY French students enjoyed a trip to the IFI to see the brilliant "La Petite Bande", bravo les filles! Second year French students studied how to make crêpes in French class last week, bon appétit les filles!

TYs had a great day out! Spanish film las Niñas in the pavilion in Dun Laoghaire and a trip to Las Tapas restaurant in Greystones!

Fifth years lending a hand in aid of St. Vincent de Paul recently! Bag packers extraordinaire. Well done to all involved.

The TY library committee were busy decorating the library for the festive period. Be sure to call into the library to see their fantastic decorations.

We would like to wish all our students starting their Christmas tests next week the very best of luck.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend. And remember, in Cluny, we believe, we belong, and we become!
