Cloud Forest Week
From the 9th until the 13th of October, we held a special themed week on Cloud Forests. Cloud forests are an increasingly rare type of forest environment which can be found in high altitudes (over 3,000 feet). Due to their unique formation, they are home to many unique species of plants and animals.
Students learned about the flora and fauna of these environment with certain species being highlighted included the glass frog, coati, Philippean eagle and orchids. As part of the week, Ms. Curtin also had a pitcher plant in the library which students could learn about. This is a carnivorous plant that has adapted to feed from insects.
As well as information boards, themed reading displays on biodiversity, rainforests and more were available to students to browse. The recommended book of the week was "no one is too small to make a difference" by Greta Thunberg. This book is a collection of her speeches that she has delivered to government agencies and national bodies around the world on the topic of climate change.
Through this week, we hope to raise awareness for these unique and increasingly endangered environments. By learning about them now, we may be able to help prevent them for vanishing forever.
Class groups could take part in a Kahoot quiz on what they learned with the winners receiving a prize.
We hope you all enjoyed this themed week on an important topic.
