Mary Mitchell O'Connor, Minister of State in the Department of Education with Special Responsibility for Higher Education visited St Joseph of Cluny Secondary School, Fri Jan 17th, 2020 on the occasion of the presentation of Awards and Profile of Achievement Certificates to Junior Cycle Students Class of 2019.

Bearing in mind that only 2% students nationwide received a Distinction in English in the Junior Cert 2019, the school honoured Cara our Cluny student who received a Distinction in English.

The minister also presented awards for ‘outstanding Junior Cycle results’ to students Eimear and Naoise.

The Junior Cycle Award Highest Achiever was awarded to Susie Holahan.

The Minister addressed the student, parent and staff body highlighting the importance not only of academic success but all the ‘soft’ skills that employers place such high value on. She urged the students to strive to be their best in all aspects of their lives and to endeavour to redress theimbalance inappointment and employment statistics in relation to women in the executive and doctoral world.

The Head Girl thanked staff and parents for their support and dedication over the last three years and spoke of the benefits of the New Junior Cycle. She presented the Minister with a gift and 4th Year Aoife presented the Year Head for the group 2016-9 Ms. Mc Evoy with a gift to thank her for all her hard work over the three years. The Deputy Head Girl brought the meeting to a close. Refreshments were served and parents, staff and 4th yrs. enjoyed their celebration.
