Senior Cycle
During Senior Cycle Geography and Transition Year we avail of our coastal and accessible location by participating in various field studies in order to teach the students geographical research skills in physical, social and human geography. These skills range from map interpretation, figure interpretation, statistical analysis, figure drawing and information technology. Over the senior cycle we endeavour to take the students out on subject related separate field trips. These may range from:
- A coastal study of deposition in North Bull Island
- A comparative study of coastal erosion at White Rock Beach and Shanganagh Beach
- An urban study in Dalkey village
- A Geology study of Killiney Hill and White Rock Beach
- A River study in Glendalough.
- A River Study in Kippure
- 5th year trip to a local manufacturing industry

This allows us to cover various aspects of the subject and give the students an appreciation of their local landscape and surroundings.
In summary, entailed above is the curriculum content of Geography in St. Joseph of Cluny, but the subject offers a much broader and holistic range of activities and learning opportunities than purely those contained within the curriculum framework. Geography is not only a school subject, Geography’s for life!!!
