The aim of the Irish Department is to arouse interest in Irish as a spoken language and to achieve high standards in every aspect of the language. Although Irish is an ancient language we wish to teach it as a modern language using new methods and strategies. The emphasis is placed on interactive learning and on group work. The emphasis is also placed on the importance of the media and technology in the learning of Irish. A huge effort is made to create a learning environment in which the students can improve their communication skills naturally.

Curaclam/Curriculum

Leanann Roinn na Gaeilge na siollabais atá leagtha amach ag an Roinn Oideachais agus Scileanna. Moltar don chuid is mó de na daltaí Ardleibhéal a dhéanamh sa Teastas Sóisearach ach tá rang gnáthleibhéil ar fáil freisin. Déanann gach dalta Scrúdú cainte mar chuid den Teastas Sóisearach chun cabhrú leo lena gcuid Scrúdú Cainte san Ardteist. Déanann daltaí an Ghaeilge ag ardleibhéal agus ag gnáthleibhéal i Scrúdú na hArdteistiméireachta.

San Idirbhliain leanann gach dalta clár na hIdirbhliana. Cuirtear béim faoi leith ar labhairt na teanga sa bhliain seo agus spreagtar na daltaí an teicneolaíocht a úsáid trí mheán na Gaeilge. Tugtar deis do na daltaí a bheith cruthaitheach leis an teanga i slite éagsúla

Students may sit Irish at honours or pass level for their Leaving Cert.

In Transition Year students follow the T.Y. programme. A particular emphasis is placed on the spoken language and students are encouraged to use technology through the medium of Irish. An opportunity is given to the the students to use the language creatively in different ways.

This is a wonderful opportunity for them to improve their oral and written skills and also increases their confidence in using the language.
